The King of Pop has been diagnosed with skin cancer according to a British tabloid. According to the paper, pre-cancerous cells were found on his face. Doctors have however assured him the cancer is treatable and his sellout comeback shows at the O2 which begin in July will go ahead.
A source close to the paper said: “Michael’s tests showed spots of skin cancer on his body, and cells which could turn to skin cancer on his face.
“He was at first very concerned, but says he has been assured by the doctors that they can treat this and he will recover.”
It is thought the star’s condition may be linked to his vitiligo, a disease that affects pigmentation. He was recently seen at the Cedar-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles which has a specialist lab to test for skin cancer. It was during one such visit that his car was involved in a collision with an ambulance when it arrived to pick him up
It is expected that Michael Jackson will be treated by Dr Ralph Massey, an award-winning cosmetic and skin cancer surgeon based in Santa Monica who was Cambridge-educated.
The O2 will be his first tour since his HIStory tour of 1997.
