Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani is recovering after contracting hepatitis. The designer, 74 released a statement to allay concerns over his health after high levels of interest in the last few days.
“There have been several phone calls asking the same questions and expressing the same concerns regarding my health. I have decided to calm these worries in my usual direct and clear style of communication… I have in fact suffered from hepatitis by poisoning, which, certainly is not a rare illness. Nevertheless it is one which requires some time for a complete recovery.
In a bid to assure his fans that his business is unaffected the statement continues: “My commitment both on the creative and management side has never relented. Consequently there has been no shift in delegation of my authorities to any one of the executives and everything in the company is proceeding with the usual energy.”
Armani founded his own men’s ready-to-wear line in 1974 and gained worldwide fame for tailoring Richard Gere in the title role of American Gigolo in 1980.
He is due to show his men’s collections during Milan’s fashion week in June.
