Bruno Premiere’s at London’s Leicester Square

After landing bare bottomed on Eminem’s face at the recent MTV movie awards, Sacha Baron Cohens camp comedy creation the Austrian TV presenter Bruno strolled into Leicester Square to promote his latest film. Dressed in black leather hotpants and a bearskin hat he wowed the crowd with a series of outlandish poses.

Accompanying him down the red carpet were a group of men who marched alongside him and who were as outrageously dressed as he was.

Standing still for the National Anthem, the group broke into frenzied dancing as the music changed to techno. The film is about Bruno’s bid for fame in LA after being sacked from his Austrian television fashion show Funkyzeit and his aim at becoming “the most famous Austrian since Hitler”.

Gay groups in America have raised concerns about the film and in April, Texas congressman Ron Paul accused him of fraud, after being unwittingly tricked into a hotel room with Brüno who posed as an economics reporter.

Brad Pitt tops Underwear Poll

Brad Pitt has topped a poll conducted by underwear maker Jockey International as the celebrity dad Americans would most like to see in his underwear.
Pitt topped the poll after amassing 29 percent of voters. Matthew McConaughey with 24 percent was second and Hugh Jackman came in third with 19 percent of the votes. Will Smith was fourth at 16 percent.

What do you think? Is Mr Pitt with his“Sexiest Man” and “Most Beautiful man” titles deserving or would you vote a certain David Beckham especially after seeing his recent ad campaign for Armani?

Hayfever – Causes, Symptoms, Prevention and Treatment

With the hayfever season upon us, life can become very difficult for the estimated 9 to 15 million people in the U.K that suffer from it. Hayfever or allergic rhinitis to use it’s medical name is caused by the allergic reaction of the body to pollen in the air you breathe. Unfortunately, it tends to run in families so if one of your family members has it, you are also likely to suffer from it. In the U.K, the pollen season starts from around March when trees such as Birch begin to release pollen right through to September when grasses release theirs.

Causes: A reaction to pollen released by plants is the main cause of hayfever. The body believes erronously that the pollen is harmful and releases antibodies to fight off these foreign invaders. Antibodies are proteins that attach themselves to foreign invaders allowing them to be cleared. In the of hayfever sufferers a special type of antibody, known as Immunoglobulin E (IgE), is released to attack the pollen triggering the release of further chemicals, including histamine. Histamine is a substance which attaches to the cells in your body and irritates them. It is the histamines that cause the symptoms of an allergic reaction.

Symptoms:

An itchy throat
Runny or blocked nose,
Watery or/and itchy eyes
Violent Sneezing
Lethargy
Loss of concentration.

Prevention: There are a few things that can be done to reduce your exposure to pollen. These include:

Keep an eye on the pollen count and avoid going out if possible on days the pollen count is high. The pollen count is usually highest in the early morning, late afternoon and early evening.
Protect your eyes with wraparound sunglasses to prevent pollen from entering the eyes.
Take a shower and change your clothes once you get back indoors if you have been outdoors.
Buy a pollen filter for your car and keep the windows shut when driving.
Dry your clothes indoors , especially on days when the pollen count is high.
Wash and towel down your pets before they come back indoors if they’ve been outdoors.
Use a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter in your bedroom.

Treatment: Ideally, the best way to treat an allergy is to avoid it in the first place. In the case of hayfever though, it is not ideal to lock yourself up in a room to avoid the pollen! There are different medicines on the market that can help to cope with hayfever. These include:

Antihistamines: These work by blocking the effect of histamines which are released during an allergic reaction including sneezing, itchy or runny noses. They are not so effective with blocked noses however. Although they can be obtained without a prescription over the counter, always consult your GP before starting any medication and be sure to follow the leaflet that accompanies the medicine. If using antihistamine tablets, it is advisable to go for a non-drowsy one that won’t affect normal everyday occurences such as driving.
Nasal sprays and eye drops: These are applied directly either to the eyes or nose. They work in different ways.
Decongestants shrink the blood vessels in the nose thereby unblocking the nose. A rare side effect of decongestants is an increase in heart rate and blood pressure. They should be used only a few days at a time after consultation with your GP.
Anti-inflammatory nasal sprays and drops as their name suggests reduce nasal inflammation and contain corticosteroids, which are based on cortisol but are altered to improve their effectiveness in treating hay fever symptoms. They are especially effective at dealing with the sneezing, itching, soreness and watery discharge associated with hay fever. For an even more effective relief, they can be combined with anti-histamine tablets.
Sodium Cromoglycate: These work by preventing tissues becoming inflamed when an allergic reaction occurs and are also used in eye drops.
Immunotherapy or Desensitisation: Is a vaccine given over a course of years to get the body used to the pollen. The frequency of injections get further and further apart and the amount of trigger pollen you are given with each injection is increased so that your body slowly adjusts and gets used to it, realising that it is not a threat to you.
Acupuncture: There have been claims that these relieve or prevent hayfever but they have never been scientifically proven. It is thought to work that by inserting needles into ‘pressure points’ the body’s immune system is stimulated helping it fight off an allergen.

Hayfever is a nuisance but you needn’t let it ruin your life. With the information above, we hope you can still get the best out of summer and if all else fails…book a flight to some exotic destination free from those pesky plants that cause all these problems. Now where’s my passport…

Lose Weight and Keep It Off. Permanently

A diet shouldn’t be a fad which one goes on to reduce weight only to put it back on once the ‘diet’ is over. Rather it should be taken as part of lifestyle changes to lose the weight and keep it off permanently. There are many types of diets including the Atkins diet, the Zone diet, the South Beach diet and many more. When considering a diet, it is important to ensure that the body gets all the nutrients and nourishment it needs from the said diet. Diets that exclude certain types of food can adversely affect the body as the body needs different types of food in order to fight disease and maintain a state of positive wellbeing. One has to beware of any program that purports to lose weight too quickly as these programs might be dangerous due to sudden changes in the body’s physiology. In general, things to consider to ensure a successful diet regime include: monitoring the amount of food intake, ensuring the right types of food is eaten, exercising and addressing the mental attitude that weight loss is a quick fix solution rather than a lifestyle change.

Monitoring the amount and type of food intake:
The average woman according to the UK Department of Health needs around 1940 calories a day. Any excess food is stored as fat. One pound in body weight is equal to 3500 calories. In other words, to lose one pound in weight, you need (if you are an average woman) to consume 3500 calories less than you do at the moment over a period of time. Before you go out rushing to reduce the amount you eat however, remember that to lose weight, you need to make lifestyle adjustments. Do not go out starving yourself to lose this weight. If the body’s needs aren’t being met nutritionally, it tends to go into starvation mode and it hoards food the next time you eat. When you do eat, it is stored as fat which means you will get flabbier and unhealthier with all the fat piling into the wrong places. One of the side effects- love handles! You will also tend to crave sugary and fatty foods. The recommended rate of weight loss is one to two pounds a week. This means that if you can reduce your calorie intake by 500 calories a day, you are well on your way to reaching your goal.

Ensure the right type of food is eaten:
The body is a complex machine. Imagine you win the lottery and you decide to some of your money on buying that dream car you’ve always wanted. You wouldn’t fill its tank with diesel if it happened to be a petrol engine. It is the same with the body. Diets that advice that a certain food group is bad is are to be avoided. All food groups are to be included in a balanced diet. Try to avoid too much processed food as these contain high levels of salt and fat. When cooking chicken for example, try to avoid using the skin as this has high levels of fat. Reduce the amount of foods that have saturated fat in your diet such as hard cheese, butter, cakes and biscuits as they increase the amount of cholesterol in the body which can in turn lead to heart disease. Base your meals on starchy foods such as Cereals, Potatoes and Rice as they are a good source of energy and contain fibre, calcium and Vitamin B. It might sound clichéd but try as much as possible to get your five portions of fruit and vegetables. Eat more oily fish like fresh tuna, trout, salmon and mackerel as they contain omega 3 oils which keep the heart healthy.

Exercising:
The benefits of exercising has been stated probably from the dawn of time. The idea of pumping iron tends to put a few off but in reality, exercise doesn’t have to be strenuous. Choose a workout which you find to be fun and you are likely to stick to it. Learn a new dance like the Salsa or Waltz if you fancy. If you find that you are getting bored with it, it might be time to change it. Cardiovascular exercises which as the name suggests increases your heart rate include running, jogging, skipping and spinning and are the best exercises to lose weight. If you are unable to do these, a fast walk from the station home is better than nothing. The higher metabolism involved in performing these exercises causes the fat to drop off. Added benefits include longevity as studies have found a link between doing cardio exercises for 25 to 60 minutes a session and 3 to 5 sessions a week and longer life compared to those who don’t. The exercising also relives stress and boosts self confidence. As with all things though, be sensible and wear the right gear such as padded trainers to reduce injury to joints. Also be sure to consult a medical practitioner such as your GP before you embark on any type of exercise.

With these tips, you have more than a fighting chance of losing weight and more importantly keeping the weight off without succumbing to a lose weight quick fad. Whatever you do, enjoy your plan to keep the weight off…

Victoria Beckham was seen last night supporting her man David at the England versus Andorra match. This is one of the better styles Mrs Beckham has stepped out in lately. Here we take a look at what makes this style work.

Those oversized sunglasses. It doesn’t matter that the sun isn’t shining. It’s the look stupid..
The tossled hair which though painstakingly done, looks as though she’s just run her hands through to smoothen.
Some might suggest the black see-through top was an error but we think it left just enough to the imagination.
She is never seen without a bag, in this case a black Hermes bag. This goes well with the black top.
To add pattern to her outfit, Victoria wears a cream dirndl miniskirt with horizontal lines. This breaks up the look and adds a bit of colour.
And lest we forget, those ankle breaking heels with tasselled straps.

Anne Hathaway was breathtaking at the 63rd Tony Awards held at the Radio city Music hall in New York. Wearing a red strapless back Oscar de la Renta dress, she complimented it with red satin peep toe pumps. Wanna know how to get that look…

Anne’s look was created by Julie Harris and as Anne is a spokesperson for Magnifique, it isa a no brainer that she’d use some of their products.

For the perfect eyebrows Lancôme Modèle Sourcils in Naturel was used to shape and define Anne’s brows. Next applied was Lancôme Artliner in Noir to her upper lash line. To make Anne’s eyes pop, Julie coated her lashes with Lancôme Hypnôse mascara to give her lashes extra volume and finish the look.

For her hair, distribute a medium-hold mousse on smooth, dry hair to help maintain and support the structure of the style.
Create a deep side part and pull the top section of hair to one side, while you work on the back section.

Twist hair back into a basic French Twist and secure with bobby pins. Pull the front section back, sweeping over the twist and pinning in at the top of the twist, while leaving the ends loose. and finish off with a finishing spray, like Nexxus Maxximum, for a strong hold that will last all night long.

Freida Pinto Dating Co-Star

Freida Pinto, one of the stars of the widely acclaimed movie hit Slumdog Millionaire has confirmed for the first time that she is dating her co star Dev Patel.

The 24 year old star who played Latika in the film called Dev “a lovely boy”. It was a case of fiction mirroring real life as the pair played childhood sweethearts in the Oscar-winning movie, and their close friendship away from the cameras prompted rumours of a relationship.

Pinto continued: “The friendship blossomed after the film, it got even stronger. This is all new to us.”

The couple have never confirmed rumours that they have been dating although speculation mounted when they were earlier spotted holding hands and cuddling up at a seaside restaurant in Israel, and ring shopping in London after the film was released.

The Eyes Have It – Perfect Eyebrow Tips

The eyes have been described as the windows to the soul. Well if the eyes are the windows, the eyebrows are certainly the gateway. Well groomed eyebrows can enhance your appearance and as with most things, it is the little things that can make a lot of difference. Follow these steps to get perfect eyebrows everytime.

Sharp tweezers are a must. You might find it easier to use slanted tweezers if you are a beginner. You will also need an eyebrow brush, eyebrow scissors, brow pencil and eyebrow gel.
Prepare the eyebrows. Moisten the skin around the eyebrows. Soak a cotton ball in water and wipe around the brow area. Better still, pluck them after a shower.
Always follow the natural outline of your eyebrows. Hold your eyebrow pencil vertically from your nostril. This is where your eyebrow should begin. Your brow should begin at your tear duct, which is above your nostril. It should be even with the inside corner of your eye, peak at the outer edge of your iris and end at the outer corner of your eye. Any hair that is visible beyond the pencil should be tweezed.
Next, hold the same eyebrow pencil at a 45 degree slant from your nostril. This is where your eyebrow should end – at the outer edge of your iris.To find the arch, which is the highest point of the brow, place the pencil diagonally where it should hit the middle of the mouth, nostril, and outside edge of the iris. Tweeze gradually the line from the arch to the start of the eyebrow.
Brush the eyebrows upwards and trim. Then brush downwards and trim the remaining long hairs. Be careful when trimming any excess hair above the top of your natural arch. Taking too much off will leave your brow with “bald” spots.
Now get the tweezers and pull out any stray hair. Pull in the direction of growth to avoid breaking the hair mid shaft. Avoid the temptation to over pluck. Look in the mirror to see how you are faring.
Use brow powder closest to your hair colour to give defination to the brow and fill in any patches with small strokes of an eyebrow pencil. Finally apply the eyebrow gel to keep everything in place.

With your eyebrows groomed and powdered, you don’t need extra make up, you will have that natural beauty and feel so much more confident.

Rachel Steven Mugged at Doorstep.

Former ‘S Club 7′ band mate and Strictly come dancing finalist Rachel Stevens was robbed of her engaement ring right on her doorstep yesterday.

It is believed she was followed home by three muggers who ambushed her as she entered her £800,000 north London flat. Ms Stevens who is due to marry in weeks was given the ring by her actor fiancé Alex Bourne. Also stolen with the ring was a Rolex wristwatch and a necklace which together are worth thousands of pounds.

Scotland Yard said: “It’s believed the woman returned to her flat and was followed in to the premises by three males. The suspects are understood to have threatened her before making off with a quantity of jewellery.”

One of the robbers was white and the two others were black.

Turn That Great Mate into Your New Date

During the course of every single girls life, there comes a time when that great guy seems kinda boyfriend material. So how do you go about taking a fruitful friendship into the next level without ruining it?

Make sure he’s over his ex. You most definately don’t want to be the cause of the break up of his relationship and you under no circumstances want him when he’s on the rebound. You will need to poke his brain and find out if he’s still in touch with her. While that isn’t neccessarily a bad thing, if he pines over her and has that glazed faraway look anytime he speaks about her, then it’s just not the time to strike yet. Whatever you do, DON’T be the one he turns to when he has relationship problems otherwise you’ll always remain friends.

Drop subtle hints that you’re willing to take things to the next level. Flirt with him without going overboard. Sit next to him and pay him compliments. Hold his gaze that little bit longer. Most guys are quite perceptive to these types of things. You can always tell if he’s interested as he’ll flirt back with you. That way, you’ll find out if he will be receptive to moving on to the next level without ruining a perfectly good friendship.

If he’s already a mate of yours, then you already have some common interests. Rather than asking him out on a date straight away, try to find out when he’s available and offer to hang out together. Do you share the same interests in music, movies or perhaps it’s bowling? Before you know it, you’re both having a fun time together and he’s looking forward to spending more time with you the next time around.
